Carrick finally did what Man Utd fans have been demanding after goal vs Leeds, Schmeichel loved it

Michael Carrick can’t do much right in the fans’ eyes this season, but he managed to meet a small demand after the team scored against Leeds.

Two more points were dropped by Michael Carrick’s side in the draw away at Leeds, and this time, it was after going ahead in the first half.

Man Utd dropped their levels after scoring the opener, and Leeds ended the game as the team likelier to finish the game with a winner.

However, what Carrick did after United scored the opener was a breath of fresh air, and met a small demand of Man Utd fans, including Peter Schmeichel, who loved it.

Michael Carrick drives emotion among Man Utd fans

It is a harsh truth of management that everything is contingent on results, so the same manager who can do no wrong when he’s winning can do no right when he’s losing, even if he hasn’t changed.

Carrick is feeling that effect first-hand right now, as the same manager who was praised for “giving the media nothing” is now being criticised for not showing any personality.

Honest opinion… will Michael Carrick survive the 2026/27 season at United?

We want Michael Carrick to SUCCEED at Man Utd – but the season has started badly…

Its not the manager this time its them above him. They have got the wrong players CARRICK WILL get it good again and get the players buzzing.

i think Carrick Is great but the players are lazy ATM but he will bring them in line no doubt

I personally agree with Lisandro on what he said, and that he should be backed for calling out Wilcox for players not purchased as in Hall, then Angelo Stiller instead of Youri Tielemans. Wilcox and Glazers Out, not Michael

The Man Utd manager has always been a calm and composed character, preferring to stay level amid the extreme highs and lows.

It made him look effortless when the team was winning, but it makes him look careless and dispassionate when he’s not.

Man Utd fans want to get behind their manager, but they want to see Carrick care about this as much as they do, and be able to see it.

Therefore, it was a huge relief to see Carrick finally show a bit of emotion when he celebrated United’s opener against Leeds, which was a departure from his usual stoic demeanour.

After the game, Schmeichel brought up his lack of celebration after the goal against Spurs, comparing it to what Mikel Arteta shows for Arsenal.

He loved what Carrick did against Leeds, and wants to see more of that from him, adding, “It means something to me,” which probably echoes the sentiment of a lot of United fans.

Things like these might seem small in isolation, but the performative part of management can easily keep the club and the fans on your side, and Carrick only needs to look at his predecessor for what it did.

Carrick could lose his next nine games and his win percentage as Man Utd manager will still be higher than Amorim’s, and yet, he’s under more pressure from fans than Amorim ever was.

That is because Amorim showed that he cared, and sold a dream to the fans regardless of whether he was capable of making it a reality.

The celebration against Leeds was a good start, now to see some bite in press conferences. It doesn’t have to be fake, but he also shouldn’t hide what he’s truly feeling, and come out fighting.
