Man City squad 'relaxed' over charges after guilty 115 verdict

Marc Guehi said he wants to be part of future Manchester City success as he trusts club bosses in their appeal against the guilty verdict

Marc Guehi says Manchester City players are relaxed despite the club being found guilty of cheating because they trust what they have been told. City insist they are innocent of breaking financial rules and are appealing, and the reassurances from bosses has been quickly accepted by the squad.

Guehi is part of the four-man leadership team at the Etihad, having been selected by Enzo Maresca in the summer to be added to the group. Captain Ruben Dias and his deputy Erling Haaland were both here when the charges were first announced in 2023, and they have led calls for the players to focus on winning football matches.

"The club notified everyone straight away so we were pretty calm," he said. "There were a lot of relaxed faces because we have a lot of trust and belief in the club and what's been going on here.

"It’s been nice, it's been good. We get to see a lot of togetherness. The team spirit has been really fantastic from every single person and player - especially the staff and the fans that are backing us. To be honest, it’s been great to see.

"It can be very easy to listen to the noise and be affected by everything going on but I'm so happy to see the team spirit and everyone taking to what's happening and just focusing on the football."

City only signed Guehi in the January transfer window, yet the former Palace captain immediately trusted the messages he was given when news of City's guilty first broke three weeks ago. The 26-year-old is still intending to be part of the club's future as they battle to overturn the verdict against them.

"Ever since I’ve got here they’ve been nothing but fantastic with me," he added. "The support that I've had with tough times on and off the pitch. I’m aware of the success the club has had and I want to be part of the future success. You get the sense from everyone at the football club that it’s a family club, people love one another. I can only talk from my experience."
