Sheffield Wednesday player ratings featuring the class act and the crass act

Sheffield Wednesday were forced to settle for a home draw for the second time in a week, but there was a lot to like in their performance against Blackpool.

It started with some champagne football, but Sil Swinkels’ red card after 40 minutes meant the hosts had to grit it out just to claim a 1-1 draw.

Ashley Maynard-Brewer – could have done better with the goal and his distribution was not great 5

Liam Palmer – did a job at right-sided centre-back and left-back 6 Ernie Weaver – produced a great tackle to bail out Sil Swinkels but was a fault for Jerry Yates' equaliser 6 Sil Swinkels – an Owls win looked very likely until his red card 4 Yan Valery – got forward to good effect, but not at the expense of his defensive duties 7 Jaden Heskey – good on the ball and did the running needed alongside Barry Bannan 7 Barry Bannan – came very deep at times in search of the ball, he had a set-to with Ian Evatt which delighted Matt Hamshaw 6 Max Lowe – plenty of energy for a man carrying a calf injury 7 Callum Slattery – enjoyed his role behind the front two 7 Mason Burstow – came close to a goal of the season contender, showing his confidence after linking up well with his fellow forwards 7 Davis Keillor-Dunn – a class player in form, he took his goal well 8 Substitutes: Ricardo Santos (for Keillor-Dunn, 81) – not his fault the team conceded within seconds of his coming on 5 Harry Gray (for M Lowe, 89) – N/A Kieran Morrison (for Burstow, 89) – N/A#

Not used: Fusire, Otegbayo, Liongola, Trueman.
