Arsenal have paid tribute to Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel, who has died after suffering a cardiac arrest during a match in Spain.
The 30-year-old collapsed following a clash with visiting goalkeeper Jesus Owono, who had charged out of his penalty box to clear a long ball, catching the forward in the chest with his knee. Owono was shown a straight red card for the foul.
Pitchside medical staff treated the player for over five minutes prior to his transfer to hospital by ambulance, and the match was abandoned.
A statement on the second-tier Spanish side on Tuesday morning read: “Heartbroken, with a lump in our throats and unable to believe this is true, we at CD Tenerife announce the tragic passing of Jesus de Miguel Alameda.

Arsenal showed an image of De Miguel on a big screen at their training ground, as the players and coaches, led by manager Mikel Arteta, huddled nearby to pay their respects.
The Spanish Football Federation postponed all matches scheduled for Tuesday, including fixtures in the Copa del Rey and Copa de la Reina.
UEFA announced that a period of silence would be observed before all European games this week.
Spanish sides Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Villarreal are in Champions League action on Tuesday.
"We are heartbroken by the death of Jesus de Miguel Alameda," UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin said. "We have searched for words and found only silence."
