‘Gotta Be the Worst Announcer in Sports,’ ‘Needs To Retire’ — NFL Fans Take Issue With Al Michaels’ Lack of ‘Enthusiasm’ During Broncos-Seahawks

It’s another Thursday Night Football game, and Al Michaels once again drew criticism from the viewers. Fans weren’t thrilled with Michaels’s lack of energy when calling two of the better teams in the NFL: the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks.

Fans Express Frustration with Al Michaels’ Lack of Enthusiasm on Broncos-Seahawks Broadcast

It hasn’t been the most eventful game on primetime, but fans aren’t happy with Michaels and his showing on the microphone. He has faced criticism from viewers throughout the season, and Thursday night was no different.

“Is (it) too much to ask Al Michaels to express a tad bit more enthusiasm on a damn fumble?” asked one fan.

“Al Michaels is so cooked man. How are you gonna call a touchdown like that? Dude needs to retire and have someone who actually has enthusiasm have an opportunity to call these games,” added another fan.

Fans simply want more excitement out of Michaels. It is his job to bring the energy and enthusiasm to the big moments, but his calls of Rashid Shaheed’s fumble and RJ Harvey’s touchdown weren’t satisfactory to fans. They want Michaels off the broadcast and to retire.

“Al Michaels needs to retire, his commentary is so dull now,” said one fan.

“Al Michaels gotta be the worst announcer in sports at this point. Just retire,” wrote another fan.

Michaels is 81 years old and has been broadcasting since the 1970s. He’s had a legendary career, but fans are ready for him to hang it up and ride into the sunset. One fan called for Hornets announcer Eric Collins or Gus Johnson to replace Michaels because they are two of the most enthusiastic broadcasters in the space.

“At what point do we accept as a society that Al Michaels just doesn’t have his fastball anymore. Just give us Gus Johnson and Eric Collins in the booth to feel something,” said one fan.

At the time of writing, the Broncos’ defense is dominating the Seahawks’ offense and threatening to send the reigning Super Bowl champions to a 3-3 record.

As the Broncos close in on their best victory of the season, fans are still going at Michaels for his poor broadcasting performance on primetime.
