Winners, losers as Packers top Panthers 27-19 on Thursday Night Football

Jordan Love threw three touchdowns while Bryce Young struggled under center to open Week 8.

Green Bay took care of business at Lambeau.

The Packers topped the Carolina Panthers 27-19 on Thursday Night Football as Jordan Love outdueled Bryce Young in an NFC battle.

Green Bay broke the game open late in the second quarter and early in the third, going up 27-10 to put the Panthers out of reach.

Young led a few drives to make things interesting in the closing minutes, but he couldn't make the necessary throws under pressure.

The Packers are now 5-3 in a tight NFC North, while the Panthers are 3-4 but still in the race to win the lowly NFC South.

Let's break down the Week 8 opener further with winners and losers:

WINNER: Christian Watson, Packers

To go out of the game in an ambulance, come back and still lead all receivers in catches and yards gets Watson a winner's mention.

Watson went down with a chest injury and had to be taken to the hospital as a precaution, but he eventually returned and continued to impact the game. He finished with eight catches on 10 targets for 113 yards, proving to be a reliable outlet for Love.

LOSER: Bryce Young, Panthers offensive line

The combination of Young and a poor Panthers offensive line gets a loser's spot. Carolina is down some starters on the line, and it was evident as Young often looked lost in the pocket as Green Bay surrounded him.

Young went down six times, all to different members of the Green Bay defense. He threw for 209 yards, one touchdown and a pick on 23 of 41 completions. Young has assembled some solid games this season, but his inconsistency limits Carolina's ability to take a leap.

WINNER: Packers' pass rush

Continuing on from the previous section, six different defenders earned a sack on the night for Green Bay.

Those players were Ty'Ron Hopper, Lukas Van Ness, Barryn Sorrell, Dani Dennis-Sutton, Brenton Cox Jr. and Devonte Wyatt. The Packers are still awaiting the return of Micah Parsons, which will certainly help them on the margins against mid-tier NFC sides.

LOSER: Josh Jacobs, Packers

Green Bay got the job done and Love, in particular, shined through the air with three passing touchdowns and 288 passing yards. But it was a completely different story on the ground.

Josh Jacobs, who recently returned from the NFL's Commissioner Exempt List, was kept in check with just 39 rushing yards on 21 carries. That's worth just 1.9 yards a carry. Though he did log a touchdown, that level of production clearly won't cut it against better sides.

WINNER: Chuba Hubbard, Panthers

On the opposite sideline, Carolina got workhorse production from its RB1, Chuba Hubbard. The 27-year-old back did a little of everything out of the backfield, running for 81 yards on 22 carries and a score. That's good for 3.7 yards per carry, which is decent given the circumstances.

He also brought in seven catches on eight targets for 38 yards, primarily being a reliable checkdown option for Young when he felt the heat. It wasn't enough to flip the game into a win, but the effort should be appreciated.
