To round off our ‘Nico Raskin confession’ series, the final admission that Raskin made was on the treble, and was one of the most comforting for Rangers supporters. While his previous two admissions did suggest, of course, that he was ready to leave and that he wanted Europe, and was disappointed not to get it, the final admission he made was the most important in so many respects.
Rangers, of course, are desperately trying to equal Celtic’s record of 56 titles this season. Celtic, for the very first time, went ahead in the championship stakes by getting that 56th title, even if it was barely so. Nevertheless, 56 was theirs last season, as a mild correction to our previous article where we didn’t realise they already had 56. Sorry Celtic fans who trolled us recently for not knowing that, we don’t care enough about your team to know much about you.
So Rangers are trying to equal that this season to make it all square. That is an essential thing for Rangers to do, never to be behind Celtic, because we welcome the chase, after all.
He said:
“Yeah, winning. Winning the cup, winning the league, winning the other cup. That’s what a good season is at Rangers. You can’t be satisfied with one.”
However, Raskin said something in his presser that offered absolute certainty that he at least has a Rangers mentality and mindset. And that is that he wants the treble.
Asked at his presser what he was content with in terms of winning this season, he said everything. He wants to win all the titles. He wants to win both cups and the league. The whole point of Rangers is that Rangers should be winning everything.
It is a lost art with this club over the past 15 years to win things. It is an alien concept these days, and that is absolutely tragic for what Rangers should be.
But nevertheless, Raskin is not someone who takes it lying down. Raskin is someone who is very much at the forefront of wanting to win. He is a winner. There is no question that Raskin’s mentality is that of a winner, and he wants to do so.
Of course, there is a bit of a paradox and contradiction that he wants to leave and get Europe. But nevertheless, if he is to stay at Rangers, 100% the boy has made it completely clear in his admission that he wants all three trophies.
Can Rangers win the treble this season? The truth is that would be a very, very tough one to secure, with the team still in second place behind Celtic. There’s a lot of work to do to win a single cup, never mind all three trophies.
But Rangers are in the semi-final, at least, of a cup and are pretty close to winning the whole thing. So one trophy would be a good start. It would be the first trophy Rangers would win since Philippe Clement’s League Cup in 2023.
But nevertheless, Raskin has demonstrated that he at least has the mindset of a Ranger, a proper Ranger who wants to win everything, who demands to win everything.
That’s the way it should be, and the treble is at least something about Nico Raskin that we can absolutely unequivocally endorse.
