The injury situation at Chelsea right now is OK – but it’s heading in the wrong direction.
A few players were already out, and we added Reece James, Emi Martinez and Pep Chavarria to that list last week. The squad is deep and it’s not time to panic just yet, but Xabi Alonso had to give an update on a few players today.
We know that Martinez and James will be out for a while, so what we wanted to know about was the injury we had little information on – the problem that caused Chavarria to pull out of the Everton game at the last minute last week. Alonso didn’t give much information (he never does), but did confirm that the Spaniard won’t be ready for tomorrow’s game against Spurs.
“Malo [Gusto] is fine. Pep is training a little bit more but he is not going to make it.”
It sounds like he will be back in a week at most, and could even be ready for the game against Liverpool in midweek. Jorrel Hato will continue on the left, with Marco Palestra fit to come on and play on either side if needed.
