A new NFL trade rumor opens the door for the New York Giants to address a major need in a deal with rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles, before next week’s deadline.
The Giants and Eagles head into the Week 9 NFL schedule in very different positions. New York has been one of the feel-good stories in the NFL this season, because despite losing their starting quarterback and top pass rusher, they sit atop the NFC East with a 4-2-1 record. On the flip side, injuries — especially to Jalen Hurts — have had a far bigger effect on Philadelphia’s 2-6 record over the first half of the season.
Ahead of the Nov. 10 trade deadline, reports point to the Giants being buyers, while the Eagles could be big sellers. But could the two NFC East teams actually work together on a deal? With New York allegedly looking to upgrade the running back spot, a trade for Saquon Barkley seems intriguing. It would give them the elite back they want, while righting the wrong of letting him leave Big Blue for Philly in free agency two years ago.
However, recent reports claim the Eagles have informed the three-time Pro Bowler that they have no plans to move him. NFL insider Jason LaCanfora backed up that belief in a Tuesday report when he suggested Barkley is near untouchable. But there is a different star who would address a Giants need and might be up for grabs before the deadline.
“Executives have also long wondered whether the Eagles would be able to retain both former first-round defensive tackle selections, Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter. But Philadelphia won’t sell low on either if a deal presents itself,” LaCanfora wrote.
The word around the NFL is that the Giants are trying to find upgrades at running back and the interior of their defensive line after trading Dexter Lawrence in the offseason. The two-time Pro Bowler would absolutely fill that void. Furthermore, the 25-year-old is also under contract for five more seasons. The big question is what would the price be?
The Giants got the 10th overall pick in April’s draft for Lawrence, who is a three-time Pro Bowler and only three years older than Carter. It is possible the Eagles ask for a first-rounder plus a future Day 3 pick for the talented defensive tackle. Do you think the G-Men would be willing to pay that price?
