Troy Aikman isn’t just a former NFL quarterback who won three Super Bowls with the Dallas Cowboys and ended up in Canton’s Pro Football Hall of Fame. He’s also one of the most well-known football broadcasters alive.

Yet, now that Aikman is headed into the final year of his contract with ESPN, the color commentator is set to be a free agent again, and there’s been a lot of speculation about his next move.

Troy Aikman Predicted to Land at Prime Video Ahead of Looming ESPN Exit

While some would argue that Aikman has one of the best TV broadcasting gigs in existence, working alongside longtime partner Joe Buck on ESPN, he may be forced into a different type of future, one without ESPN. After all, as Jimmy Traina recently revealed, the four-letter network has made no attempts to enter contract extension negotiations with Aikman.

On his “Traina Thoughts” podcast this week, he was asked which commentator would have an easier time getting a job in the media again in 2027: Tony Romo (who was recently let go by CBS after an OWI), or Aikman. Traina didn’t hesitate in siding with Aikman’s odds.

“That’s tough. I mean, in terms of what’s available, it’s going to be very hard, but every network would want Troy,” Traina said.

“I don’t know what the networks think of Romo after him getting dumped by CBS, but Aikman’s the best analyst in the game. Every network should want him, but there are circumstances there. You know, CBS has J.J. Watt. Do they want to bump him and make Aikman Jim Nantz’s partner? I would probably say no.”

But what about Aikman? While he would likely face an easier time finding another broadcasting position than Romo might, where would it be? Traina believes Aikman could quickly find a home at Amazon Prime Video, where Kirk Herbstreit currently operates.

“I would guess Aikman will go to Amazon because Kirk Herbstreit started that weird deal where if someone better than him comes along, then Amazon could hire them. But Romo might have to go to studio before doing games. So I don’t think, I know Aikman will have a much easier time.”

While Aikman could very well end up at Amazon, since Buck just signed a six-year contract extension to stay with ESPN through 2032, it means the Cowboys legend would have a new play-by-play partner.

But if it’s the difference between not having a primetime broadcasting job or trying something new, Aikman just might prefer the latter, especially if it comes with a lucrative multi-million-dollar contract.
