Steven Reynolds wins Eden Project Marathon for fourth year

Steven Reynolds, of Truro Running Club, crossed the finish line in 2:54:31, coming in first out of 252 runners registered to take part in the full marathon on Sunday, October 18.

He said: "It was such nice weather today; it did make a lot of difference.

"The ground was a little bit harder on the trail sections, which made it a little bit more runnable.

"It prompted me to go off maybe a bit too fast in the woods at the start, but I just about managed to hang on in there in the second half.

"I just got over a chest infection a couple of weeks ago, so I knew it was gonna be a bit of a tough job."

Second place went to Ross Portass from Plymouth, who finished in 3:16:45.

Phil Howard from Woking, a member of the 100 Marathon Club, took third with a time of 3:17:34.

The marathon is known for its scenic but demanding course, which ends at the Eden Project and winds through the surrounding countryside.

Tracey Smith, commercial manager at the Eden Project and organiser of the event since it began, said: "This year's event has once again demonstrated the incredible determination, resilience and community spirit that define the Eden Project Marathon and Half Marathon.

"It has been wonderful to welcome runners from near and far to Cornwall and to celebrate their achievements, whether chasing personal bests, supporting charities or simply taking on the challenge of reaching the finish line."

The women’s marathon title went to 19-year-old Annie Wisely from Plymouth, who completed her first-ever marathon in 3:24:14.

In the half marathon, Jordan Andrews from Plymouth was the first man across the line in 1:19:05.

Sarah Hoskin from the Mile High Running Club in Penryn topped the women’s half marathon with a time of 1:26:31.

Nearly 1,200 runners registered for this year’s event, which marks the marathon’s 16th year and the Eden Project’s 25th anniversary as a charity and global garden destination.
