New Liverpool sporting director Julian Ward might well be bringing in a few new players in 2027, given they have a few gaps in the squad, but it means that some players will be on their way next year too.
Liverpool may have impressively come from behind to beat Brentford 2-1 on Saturday, but there is a feeling that they need new bodies in certain positions over the course of the next two transfer windows.
The Reds were trying to bring in a right-sided winger towards the end of the summer window, with Crystal Palace star Ismaila Sarr and Brighton and Hove Albion's Yankuba Minteh two confirmed targets.
While the likes of Bradley Barcola and Rio Ngumoha have already been deployed on the right by Andoni Iraola this term, the Spaniard may still want a specialised option on that flank.
There are also question marks over both full-back positions with a lot of uncertainty in the stands over Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong, while Ronald Araujo is naturally a centre-back even if he has filled in well at right-back in recent weeks.
A new central midfielder could also be on the cards, with GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Ben Jacobs revealing that the club has interest in Bournemouth's Alex Scott, AS Monaco star Lamine Camara, and AS Roma's Manu Kone ahead of 2027.
The other big decision the club may have to make is on replacements for Alisson and Virgil van Dijk, should either player not end up extending their contracts which are due to expire at the end of this season.
Liverpool contracts expiring in 2027:
One player who does look certain to leave the club next year is Harvey Elliott, who the club signed in 2019 when he was 16 years of age.
The now 23-year-old has made one appearance shy of 150 for the Reds, but it is clear that he is unwanted after Liverpool agreed a deal to sell him to Aston Villa in the summer of 2025, with the conditions of the deal not being met as he fell out of favour at Villa Park.
Now, Iraola decided he didn't want the midfielder either despite the sale of Curtis Jones, sending him out to Valencia on a season-long loan deal, with Elliott failing to impress the Spanish media.
Elliott isn't the only Liverpool player who has likely worn the red shirt for the final time though.
Ironically, Ward actually signed Ramsay in his previous spell as the club's sporting director in 2022, with the then teenager joining from Scottish Premiership outfit Aberdeen for a fee pf £4.2m.
Jurgen Klopp was certainly impressed with the purchase at the time, saying:
"He is only 18 years old at the moment, although he turns 19 soon, and already has a decent number of first-team appearances for a defender his age.
He is athletic, smart, confident, with good technical ability and, always crucial, is eager to learn. So there's lots to like.
The right-back has barely played for Liverpool since, instead spending time out on loan at Preston North End, Bolton Wanderers, Wigan Athletic, Kilmarnock and now St Mirren this season.
It's unclear whether those club were uninterested in buying the 23-year-old permanently, or Liverpool wanted to keep hold of him, but he hasn't really pulled up any trees during any of those loan spells.
Ramsay isn't showing that he has a future in Liverpool's first team, and the fact he is currently starting for a club that has just lost five successive matches in the Scottish Premiership probably says it all.

It is a signing that is one of the failed ones from the Klopp era, and it would be a huge surprise if Ramsay ever made another Liverpool appearance, especially given his contract at Anfield runs out next summer and Iraola decided to loan him out again in August.
This is Ramsay's final chance to prove to the Merseyside outfit that he deserves an extension, but it's almost guaranteed he won't get it and that they will part ways in 2027.
