The North Carolina Tar Heels are playing an exciting brand of football right now, winning four of their first games in 2026.
UNC (4-2, 2-1 ACC) players actually seem to enjoy being teammates. With a mix of experienced transfer, talented returners and a great 2026 recruiting class, North Carolina is contributing at virtually every position.
The Tar Heels also have several recruits in their 2027 class, but they just lost one offensive weapon. On Monday, 3-star wide receiver Anthony Williams de-committed from UNC.
According to his 247Sports recruiting profile, Williams is the class of 2027's 100th-ranked wide receiver, plus the 18th-ranked South Carolinian prospect. Playing his high school football at Oceanside Collegiate Academy in Mount Pleasant (S.C.), Williams is currently missing his senior season with a hamstring injury, a tough break for the kid who recorded 1,000-plus receiving yards and 12 touchdown last fall.
With Williams' de-commitment, North Carolina is now down to two wide receivers in its next recruiting class. 4-star Amare Patterson (Bluffton, S.C.) leads the Tar Heels' recruiting board, while 3-star Chad Willis (Orchard Lake, Michigan.) is the other pass-catcher.
UNC's passing game was an afterthought in 2025, but with Billy Edwards and a new offensive coordinator in Chapel Hill, pass-catchers are thriving this fall. Star wide receiver Jordan Shipp already has 441 yards and caught his first touchdown at Duke. Jelani Thurman and Shamar Easter give North Carolina a deadly tight end duo, while freshmen like CJ Sadler are carving themselves important role on the roster.
Bill Belichick knows how to recruit and develop talent. Will the Tar Heels' head coach land another pass-catcher for his next recruiting class?
