Leeds United and Sunderland played out a closely fought 0-0 draw on Sunday afternoon amid the windy conditions on Wearside, and below are our player ratings.
Before the game, Sunderland confirmed in a statement that the game would go ahead despite the best efforts of Storm Boelo. It comes after the Met Office informed fans of an amber weather warning.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin was deemed fit enough to start, but Nico Elvedi missed out entirely. Anton Stach and Noah Okafor were only good enough for the bench, as Farke made three changes to his Leeds XI.
As the two sides played out a weather-affected 0-0 draw, we weigh up how Leeds’ players got on this afternoon. Farke’s men have now gone four Premier League games without a win, losing only once.
James Trafford – 9
Saved an awkward shot from Brobbey inside the first 10 minutes, and did so again when Brobbey went through on goal in the 26th minute. Big one-handed save to deny Angulo on 58, and a deflected effort.
Deserved his clean sheet, who had to deal with plenty of Sunderland efforts on goal. Commanded his box and looked confident with his distribution despite the conditions. Couldn’t have played any better.
James Justin – 6
Largely uninvolved in anything drastic. Constantly reliable, Justin dealt with having Bijol alongside him instead of Elvedi. Left-footed effort just before the hour mark that looked good, until it bounced wide.
Jaka Bijol – 7
Good tussle with Brobbey throughout, and dealt with him well enough aside from a couple of scary moments. Lacks the class of Elvedi, but has more prowess in the air. Great block with Angulo through.
Tarik Muharemovic – 7
Excellent on the ball as always, never afraid to dribble out. Solid in a game when the ball spent a lot of time in the air. Good chance from a corner in the 56th minute, straight at Robin Roefs. Lovely passing.
Jayden Bogle – 3
Lacked the telling end product today. Will be disappointed with his end product on the day, as numerous crosses failed. Shot blocked in the 60th minute. Frustrated foul on 64, and again later to earn a yellow.
Bad day at the office for Bogle, who has been excellent this season, and has easily earned two or three 8/10’s already. Hopefully, the right-back puts this one behind him and improves ahead of Bournemouth.
Ethan Ampadu – 6
Booked on for 30 minutes after little involvement, lazily dangling a leg to stop a Sunderland attack. Lovely incisive pass on 53 mins; got more involved as the game went on. Excellent defensive cover, on a yellow.
Ao Tanaka – 7
Couple of great tackles early on, up for the fight. Some lovely touches and passes, probably the one player in midfield to show any kind of quality. Got into some key positions at both ends of the pitch.
Gabi Gudmundsson – 6
Worked hard, and as always, got up and down well on the left flank. But he met his match in former Leeds transfer target Trai Hume, who crunched Gudmundsson a couple of times. Shot over the bar on 52 mins.
Harry Wilson – 7
Showed no signs he hasn’t played much. Involved heavily and a threat from set pieces. Just as the game was starting to open up, the Wales star was replaced by Anton Stach soon after the hour mark.
Brenden Aaronson – 6
Shook off some rustiness with a couple of heavy touches but grew as the game got older. Worked hard in Stach’s absence, lovely turns in transition – something Stuart Dallas said was Aaronson’s best asset.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 5
Hardly involved throughout after being given the green light to start. Good battle with Luke O’Nien that he won on occasion. An Erling Haaland-like display; not many touches, but always a constant threat.
Anton Stach (replaced Wilson, ’64) – 6
Not involved a great deal, made some nice forward runs.
Noah Okafor (replaced Aaronson ‘ 65) – 6
Inches away from scoring a tap-in and netting the only goal of the game, only for a late intervention. Struggled to have much of an impact, having been a doubt for the game with an adductor injury.
Lukas Nmecha (replaced Calvert-Lewin ’85) – N/A
Little time to do anything.
Sean Longstaff (replaced Tanaka ’89) – N/A
Almost scored moments after coming on, a former Newcastle man almost netting against Sunderland in the last minute at the Stadium of Light. But Robin Roefs denied the midfielder.
