Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris is adamant his side will emerge stronger for their tough start to the season as they set their sights on kick-starting their league campaign at home to Leeds United.

The Black Cats manager has hailed today's opponents as being 'always a good side', with Leeds path and progress in the Premier League a little different to his own team.

After winning promotion with a club record points total, Leeds comfortably secured safety in the top flight last season and have set about building on that this campaign as they push for a finish in the top half of the table. Meanwhile, Sunderland came up the same year from fourth place, won the play-off final and then spent a staggering £155m that summer on their way to taking the league by storm and qualifying for Europe.

Currently bottom of the Premier League table with one win to their name, consistency has been an issue, but Le Bris is certain about the quality of his squad and he's got his eyes set on Leeds, and claiming a win which could start a run for his men.

“Leeds are always a good side, from the Championship and now in the Premier League," explained Le Bris. "They have built early-season momentum, but it is a new opportunity for us.

"We have a good mix of young and experienced players, and I am pretty sure we will be rewarded soon. It is important to stay resilient and show the character of the team.

“We have not liked the feeling recently, but it is a good experience and it can be the driver to get better. The challenge will raise our level. We have been through difficult situations before. The last five games in the Championship, for example, and we came out the other side.

“It is about reacting well and staying consistent. We have to stay connected with the scenario and the events. Overall, it is important for me to keep the consistency and lead the group.

“It is not about the opponent; it is about us and the choices we are making. The reality is that you can have a poor run. We are in this situation, but we will be stronger for it.”
