‘Absolutely Torched Travis Hunter,’ ‘Might Be In for a Long Day’ — NFL Fans React As Nico Collins Makes Big Play at Expense of Jaguars Star

It was a highly anticipated matchup as two divisional rivals faced off when the Jacksonville Jaguars took on the Houston Texans at the iconic Wembley Stadium. The first half lived up to the billing as both teams traded punches.

One of the biggest plays of the game, though, came when C.J. Stroud connected with Nico Collins down the sideline. As the star wide receiver beat Travis Hunter for the big gain, social media had a field day with the play.

Fans React to Nico Collins Comfortably Beating Travis Hunter

After the Jaguars traded up to draft Hunter in the first round, the expectation was that he would be playing both wide receiver and cornerback for them. Hunter initially split his workload between wide receiver and cornerback, but Jacksonville has increasingly shifted him toward a full-time defensive role, where he’s had great success so far this year.

However, early in the game against the Texans, Hunter, who ranked 21st on PFN’s CB Impact Metric, gave up a huge completion to Collins for 42 yards.

It immediately set up the Texans for the first score of the game, a touchdown that put them up 7-0 early. For fans, though, the big play was something to behold, and it sparked immediate conversation on social media.

“Nico Collins cooked Travis Hunter,” Warren Sharp claimed, while adding a clip of the play alongside his assertion.

Frank Ammirante, too, came to a similar conclusion as he wrote, “Nico Collins just absolutely torched Travis Hunter.”

Despite the difficulty of the catch, Collins was right on the money for the grab, despite an early drizzle that should have affected his ability to catch the ball.

Adam Clanton took an immediate victory lap as he claimed, “The Travis Hunter Is Burnt Toast Drive.”

Another fan took a direct shot at the former Heisman Trophy winner as he argued, “They said Travis Hunter was the answer, and we ain’t even (playing) MHJ yet or Noel.”

That sentiment was shared by others in the Texans’ fan base as well. For them, there had been a lot of conversation about Hunter being a lockdown cornerback against their group of wide receivers. However, so far, that hadn’t come to pass.

“These fools were talking crap all week that Travis would lock up Nico,”one fan pointed out, before sarcastically asking, “What happened?!”

With the play happening in the first quarter itself, others believed the situation could quickly spiral out of control for the Jaguars and Hunter himself.

As a result, one fan claimed, “Travis Hunter might be in for a long day.”

It remains to be seen how the rest of the game shakes out. But the early returns haven’t been perfect for Hunter as he goes up against Collins. It will be interesting to see if he can turn things around in the other three quarters as the Jaguars try to battle back towards victory.
