A brief scuffle broke out during the Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers game, which resulted in an official taking a cleat to the midsection.
The incident in question occurred after Lions quarterback Jared Goff completed a 4-yard pass to Amon-Ra St. Brown. The veteran receiver tried to get up and run after Packers linebacker Isaiah McDuffie tackled him, but defensive lineman Devonte Wyatt threw him back to the ground as the play continued.
As he went to the ground, St. Brown's leg whipped and his cleat appeared to hit one of the officials in the stomach. The official tumbled to the ground in pain, before throwing a flag straight into the air while on his back.
The penalty – a personal foul for unnecessary roughness – was assessed to Wyatt. It moved the ball half the distance to the goal and gave the Lions a first-and-10 from the Packers' 11-yard line.
Had Wyatt not been penalized, the Lions would have been facing a third-and-7 from the Packers' 23-yard line.
Instead, the Lions capitalized on the fresh set of downs. Two plays after the penalty, Jared Goff connected with Jameson Williams to notch a 10-yard touchdown and give Detroit a 17-14 lead over its divisional rival.
