Pedro Neto had his chance to shine yesterday against Everton, and he got serious praise from his manager Xabi Alonso.

Pedro Neto has not always been a fan favourite with Chelsea supporters – he’s a frustrating player at times. But Xabi Alonso seems to have worked out how to get the best out of him, and after the Portuguese scored twice against Everton yesterday, his manager was full of praise for him.

“You can call him whatever – winger, wing-back, attacker, defender – because he can do many things,” Alonso said in quotes on the club’s official website, responding to a question that asked whether the former Wolves man was doing well because of a switch to wing back.

“Pedro has great qualities. He’s always a threat, has a great competitive level, he can run, do one-v-ones, can score goals.

“He’s so competitive. When he’s close to the action, he’s a threat against any full-back. When he’s on the last line or in between, he connects well with the players around, with Joao [Pedro], with Cole [Palmer], with Josh [Acheampong] as well. They worked really well, and I’m happy he could score.”

Alonso can disagree with the idea that Neto is a wing back, but he’s certainly got a different role in the attack to what he had before, and it’s working wonders for him.

In other news…

Jordan Henderson has said how impressed he is with some of his Chelsea teammates, and noted that he’s sensing a team starting to come together.

Josh Acheampong is finally being trusted in the Chelsea first team, and is showing why he should have been trusted long ago.
