Stefano Pioli could soon return to the dugout, with Udinese reportedly considering the former Milan and Fiorentina manager as a potential replacement for under-pressure Kosta Runjaic. According to Calciomercato.it, the Friulians have begun assessing their options after a difficult run of results left Runjaic fighting to keep his job.
Five consecutive league defeats have raised concerns within the Udinese hierarchy, with Sunday’s Serie A clash against Milan set to determine Runjaic’s future.
Pioli has emerged as a possible candidate should Udinese decide to make a change. The 61-year-old has been without a club since leaving Fiorentina in November 2025, following a disappointing return to the Florence outfit.
However, the experienced tactician recently confirmed his ambition to resume his managerial career in Italy. Speaking to Corriere dello Sport, Pioli admitted that he had received several offers from abroad but would prefer to remain in Serie A and prove his worth again.
The former Milan boss also rejected suggestions that his coaching career had run its course, insisting that he still had plenty to offer despite his difficult spell at Fiorentina. Pioli enjoyed the finest period of his managerial career at Milan, guiding the Rossoneri to the Serie A title in 2021/22.
His experience and familiarity with Italian football could make him an appealing option for Udinese as they seek to arrest their decline.
Nevertheless, the Friulians have yet to make a definitive decision on Runjaic’s future. Sunday’s meeting with Milan could determine whether the current coach gets another opportunity or Udinese turn to Pioli to revive their season.
