While each franchise enters the week with optimism, not all 32 NFL teams can win every week. An early-season loss doesn’t mean much in the grand scheme of things, but it’s not how any team wants to start the year. Yet, here are five NFL teams that will inevitably let their fan bases down with a loss in Week 7.
The New England Patriots got out to a rocky 1-2 start, but they’ve responded since by winning their last three games. But Mike Vrabel’s team is far from perfect. Next up is a Chicago Bears team that just got Caleb Williams back last week, and could be ready to roll. Going up against one of the NFL’s top offenses and defenses, the Patriots may end up going back to New England with a loss on Thursday night.
As one of the NFL’s best teams through six weeks, the San Francisco 49ers have been dominant on both sides of the ball. Meanwhile, the Atlanta Falcons have been hot and cold since Michael Penix Jr. returned to the lineup. Though, now that he’s another week recovered from his Week 5 rib injury, the Falcons could be in a better position to surprise their Week 7 opponent. If the Falcons can return to firing on all cylinders, this team has shown they can do some damage, and the 49ers may find that out the hard way on Sunday.
Geno Smith has helped revitalize the New York Jets’ offense this season, but they still rank just 27th in scoring. Meanwhile, the Miami Dolphins are still desperately seeking their first win as they line up for their sixth game of the season. The Dolphins have explosive athletes but are largely unproven on both sides of the ball. Yet, Miami has some exciting playmakers who could help surprise the Jets by getting the Dolphins’ first win of the season.
Last week, Jesse Minter wasn’t able to win the battle of wits against former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken’s Cleveland Browns. Minter’s Ravens could disappoint again on Sunday, taking on a refreshed Cincinnati Bengals team coming off a bye. The Bengals’ D has already shown they’re plenty capable of wreaking havoc on an offense, and Lamar Jackson likely still won’t be back to full health. That could present a very winnable situation for Cincinnati, leading to a disappointed Ravens fanbase.
The Detroit Lions are also refreshed coming out of the bye week with the second-highest-scoring offense in the NFL. But they also have a defense allowing the fourth-most points in football. Meanwhile, the Green Bay Packers are not only on a roll, allowing just 34 points in their past three games, but they’re also getting Josh Jacobs back, which could kickstart an otherwise good offense that hasn’t been able to run for crap.
