Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams put on a show in his return to the lineup in a 31-23 win over the Atlanta Falcons. Williams played arguably the best game of his career completing 30-of-36 passes for 305 yards and a touchdown.
There was come concern that Williams might start a little slow against the Falcons after missing the previous three games due to his hamstring injury. He quickly alleviated any worries, completing his first 12 passes and finishing the game with 83.3 completion percentage.
Offensive coordinator Press Taylor discussed what he saw from Williams in his return to the lineup.
“You’ve watched him mature and grow in the system and he was seeing things well [against the Falcons] and it just came together pretty well for him in terms of putting the ball in play and putting the ball where our guys were able to do something with it,” Taylor said. “To come back and to be on point, to be on rhythm, to be as accurate as he was in his first outing in a while, credit to him, credit to the skill guys to be able to get open, be available, be on time, and really be where they’re supposed to be when they are supposed to be there for him.”
In the three games without Williams, the Bears’ quarterback play was inconsistent. After a career game from Case Keenum against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3, Tyson Bagent had some ups and downs against the New York Jets in Week 4. Neither quarterback performed well in Week 5 against the Green Bay Packers, which was an all-around dumpster fire.
Chicago looked different on both sides of the ball with Williams back. There really is no underestimating the impact he has on this team. The Bears have a chance to win every game with him and will need Williams to shine in their Week 7 game against the New England Patriots on Thursday Night Football. It will be Williams’ first prime-time game of the season and he is also looking for his first win on a Thursday.
