Joey Logano was elegantly guided through the scary aftermath of his car flip by spotter Coleman Pressley.
On Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway, Kyle Larson strengthened his grip on the NASCAR championship by securing victory in the YellaWood 500. Larson held on over an incredibly dramatic final lap, clinching a win that helps him close in on a third Cup Series title.
However, many fans were left concerned after a crazy crash on Lap 183 caused a 15-car pileup down the frontstretch. Riley Hebst appeared to lose his brakes, colliding violently with the outside wall before swerving hard and streaking across the track for another high-speed impact into the inside wall.
Meanwhile, Logano - a three-time winner at Talladega - was running in fourth when he lost control and started the 15-car pileup on the frontstretch. His No. 22 Ford flipped onto its roof, spinning out while upside-down in worrying circumstances for Logano.
But Logano was able to stay calm as spotter Pressley swiftly and effectively relayed the information to his driver. Just as Logano's car flips, Pressley can be heard speaking over the radio, saying: "Hold it, hold it. Nothing's coming right here.
"There's nothing coming. There's nothing coming that's gonna hit you. There's nothing coming that's gonna hit you. Alright, talk to us once you stop. Talk to us, are you OK? Talk to us here, Joey."
Ultimately, the three-time Cup Series champion was able to climb from his car to huge cheers from the crowd. Logano told reporters: "I just got a push in the wrong spot there. It was very much a 'Talladega Nights,' Oh no, I'm upside down, this is not good' moment. I can't thank the safety crew enough. They did an amazing job flipping that thing over.
"The car did a great job. The last time I flipped it was crushed on my head. This time, I don't think any of the roll cage crushed at all, so I appreciate what NASCAR's done. Thank you and the safety team for getting me out of there. There was some vicious hits in this one. Just happy to be alive."
Logano has spoken highly of his relationship with Pressley in the past. Back in 2023, he said of his spotter: "He's so good at what he does, it's ridiculous. It's so much fun to listen to him and talk to him before the race, the homework that he does, how well he understands the sport."
Logano added: "I think that's what's made us a real threat on the race track is that he knows me. He knows exactly what I'm thinking. He can guide me into the right scenario.
"Even if he knows I'm thinking in a certain direction, if he sees it's wrong, before I even make the move, he knows to tell me not to do it. That's a really valuable thing to have."
The NASCAR Cup Series continues with the Xfinity 500 - the penultimate race of the season - at Martinsville Speedway on Sunday, Nov. 1.
