Barcelona have rarely lacked attacking talent, with generations of forwards leaving their mark on the club’s history.
From the brilliance of Lionel Messi to the emergence of a new generation led by Lamine Yamal, the Catalan side have always demanded excellence in the final third.
Hansi Flick has continued that tradition by building a team capable of overwhelming opponents with pace, movement and relentless attacking pressure.
His first full season brought major domestic success, with Barcelona winning La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup.
Raphinha played a central role in that trophy-winning campaign, establishing himself as one of the most influential figures in the squad.
Now, the Brazilian’s importance is becoming even more apparent as Barcelona look to recover from a disappointing run of results.
Raphinha has matched a remarkable goalscoring record previously achieved by Messi, giving Barcelona a major individual highlight despite consecutive defeats to Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.
The captain’s equaliser in Sunday’s El Clasico took his La Liga tally to 13 goals after nine appearances in the 2026/27 season.
He has also provided three assists, giving him 16 goal contributions in the league.
That puts Raphinha level with Messi’s return from the opening nine league matches of the 2012/13 season.
Only Cristiano Ronaldo bettered that benchmark in the comparison, having scored 17 goals during the same number of appearances in 2014-15.
Raphinha’s form is particularly striking given that he has previously been known primarily for his work from the wing.
Since arriving from Leeds United in 2022, he has developed into a decisive attacking presence at Barcelona, combining direct running and creativity with an increasingly clinical finish.
His breakthrough under Flick came during the 2024-25 season, when he recorded 34 goals and 22 assists across 57 matches in all competitions.
Those numbers helped establish him among Europe’s most productive attackers and reinforced his importance to Barcelona’s plans.
He now leads the La Liga scoring charts, ahead of Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe on 11 goals, while Yamal has eight.
His strike against Madrid briefly brought Barcelona level in the 61st minute, although Mbappe’s late winner ultimately decided the contest.
The defeat will hurt, but Raphinha’s return to scoring after a spell out with injury offers Flick something to build on.
Barcelona still need results, yet their captain’s form suggests he can remain a decisive figure in the title race.
