Klugman's great week continues at Lexus Wrexham Open

The British number 10 got the better of Slovakia's Rebecca Sramkova 6-3 6-2 in a little over an hour to progress to tomorrow's semi-finals of the World Tennis Tour W100 event.

Klugman, ranked 341 in the world, has yet to drop a set in beating three higher-ranked players this week after receiving a main draw wild card, with sixth seed Sramkova currently the world number 146 having been as high as 33 last year.

Klugman, 17, said: "I'm definitely happy about my performance today. Being in the semis of a W100 is new ground for me and also I'm playing against some really high level players. She's obviously been 33 in the world, so to see my level's kind of there is really exciting."

Enjoying her week in Wrexham, Klugman added: "It's been great, it's been good fun. I've obviously been practising really well, so it's just nice to see that all the practice I've done and things I'm working on are coming into my game now."

Klugman faces either Jodie Burrage or Marina Bassols Ribera in the last-four.

British number seven Alicia Dudeney, having won seven matches in a row, was beaten 7-6 6-2 in the day's opening quarter-final in the Carden Park Arena at Wrexham Tennis & Padel Centre by French player Elsa Jacquemot.

Dudeney, the winner of a W35 tournament in Birmingham last week, lost the opening set on a tiebreak ahead of Jacquemot completing a straight sets victory in one hour and 58 minutes.

"I'm very happy," said Jacquemot. "It's not easy and she played very good. I think I played good this morning, so I'm very happy."

Jacquemot, currently ranked 157 having been as high as 53 earlier this year, added she is "excited" to be through to the semi-finals and is enjoying her first experience of playing in Wrexham this week.

"It's very good," she said. "The people here are very nice so it's very comfortable and I'm very happy to be here. I think it's my first time to play here, so, yes, I'm very happy."

Jacquemot is now preparing to play Suzan Lamens from the Netherlands in the semi-finals after the world number 245, having knocked out top seed Anna Blinkova in the second round, continued her fine form with a 6-3 6-3 victory over American qualifier Dalayna Hewitt today.

Tomorrow's semi-finals start at noon, with the two last-four matches in the singles followed by the second doubles semi-final, an all-British clash as Klugman and Daniella Britton face Freya Christie and Eden Silva.

Admission to watch the action from court side stands, which includes a 44-page tournament programme, is £25 for adults and £19 for under-16s.
