Germany could have an intriguing international recruitment battle on its hands, and Nicolò Tresoldi is a name the German Football Association should be keeping a close eye on.

The young striker has Italian and German roots, while his mother is Argentinian, leaving him with three potential national-team options. For now, Tresoldi is in no rush to make a decision, but Germany has an opportunity to convince him that his international future belongs with the national team.

After Club Brugge shocked Inter Milan 4-3 in a Champions League game where Tresoldi had three goals, Tresoldi clarified his family background while keeping all three doors open.

“I am Italian but also German… and my mom is Argentinian! I will decide at the right moment,” Tresoldi said (as captured by Fabrizio Romano via @iMiaSanMia).

From Germany’s perspective, this is a situation worth monitoring closely.

Very closely.

Finding reliable attacking options has been a recurring challenge for the national team, and a young striker with Tresoldi’s potential could become a valuable addition to the long-term plans. Germany should be doing everything possible to make its sporting project attractive to him, particularly if he continues developing and establishes himself at the highest level.

Of course, Italy and Argentina offer compelling alternatives, and neither can be dismissed. Family connections can carry considerable weight in international football, while the opportunity to represent a particular country depends on more than sporting considerations alone.

Still, Germany has a chance to make its case. With the right development pathway and a clear vision for his future, Tresoldi could become another exciting attacking option for the Die Mannschaft.

Tresoldi’s decision is not yet made, but Germany should not wait until the other two nations make their moves before showing him what he could achieve in a German shirt.
