The first game of the 2026-27 NBA regular season between the Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets at TD Garden Tuesday (Oct. 27) night had all the signs of a potential trap game for the Celtics, the Nets still winless after their first 3 tilts and Boston on the back end of back-to-back with the Chicago Bulls. And it very nearly was one for the Celtics with all of regulation and an overtime all coming down to a last-second shot from star forward Jayson Tatum that went in.

The contest was tight from wire to wire, with neither ball club leading by more than 8 points at any point in the game. The Celtics lost the shot attempt battle 97 to 93, the battle of the boards 48 to 47, and were held to 45 percent from the floor overall and 27 percent from deep on a night the Nets shot 46 percent and 34 percent respectively. A strong push in the extra period was enough to overcome those deficits even so, Boston improving to 3-1 on the season with the win.
