The Washington Huskies could be close to adding some much-needed reinforcements at running back coming out of their bye week.
During his Monday press conference, Jedd Fisch stated that Oregon transfer Jayden Limar, who suffered an elbow injury in the fourth quarter of Washington's season-opening win in the Apple Cup against Washington State, was able to take some reps in practice over the week off. Later on, while making his weekly appearance on the Husky Football Coaches Show, the head coach added that Limar could make his return when Washington heads to Nebraska on Halloween.
"I think Jayden Limar is on track to have an opportunity to maybe play this week," Fisch said during the Husky Football Coaches Show. "I think that will help us a lot."
Against a Nebraska defense that ranks No. 7 in the Big Ten against the run, allowing 99.57 yards per game on the ground, adding Limar to a backfield headlined by freshman Brian Bonner Jr. and sixth-year Trey Cooley, especially as more injuries continue to pile up on the offense.
With freshman running back Ansu Sanoe dealing with a foot sprain and center Landen Hatchett out for the year, the Huskies need all the reinforcements they can get in the run game as Washington looks to build on its season-best 186 rushing yards as Sam Houston State transfer Kolt Dieterich will slide back inside to center.
"Kolt's gotten better at center, so that will help us," Fisch continued. "No run, no win, and we're trying. Each week, we're close to 28-32 rushing attempts a game; we're not just saying it's not gonna happen."
