An interesting pitch has been making its way backstage within WWE that would see the revival of a character that hasn't been around in almost seven years.
PWInsider Elite reports that there have been "early pitches" internally within WWE to resurrect Sin Cara - a character that has been played by multiple wrestlers over the years.
The original Sin Cara was played by CMLL star Mistico between the years 2011 through to 2014. Mistico then was suspended for a Wellness Policy violation but the masked character was a big success from a merchandising perspective that WWE then re-cast Hunico in the role under the mask.
When Mistco was reinstated, the ended up feuding with Hunico in a Sin Cara vs. Sin Cara program, ultimately wrestling back the gimmick and character. However, he was released a couple of years later and WWE went back to having Hunico reprise the role which he played until his departure in 2019.
The PWInsider report indicates that the belief is that someone completely new would be placed under the mask in this new iteration, assuming the idea comes to fruition. The report also added that with the great success of AAA and luchadors in general within WWE, the company is looking to capitalize and bring back a character to which they outright own the trademark.
