The Seattle Seahawks recently played sophomore tight end Elijah Arroyo on IR. We now know Arroyo will undergo season-ending surgery on his injured shoulder. The setback brings his future with the franchise into question.
Arroyo was an injury-prone player coming out of the University of Miami in the 2025 NFL draft. He was also a highly athletic, intriguing pass catcher. Seahawks GM John Schneider decided to roll the dice by selecting Arroyo with the 50th overall selection. That decision is backfiring right now.
Arroyo's sophomore season is over after he produced just one reception for 17 yards in six games. In two combined seasons, Arroyo has recorded 16 catches for 196 yards and one touchdown. Things haven't gone totally according to plan.
The underdiscussed element is that Arroyo wasn't factoring much into Brian Fleury's offense even before the injury. Pro Football Reference has him having played just 88 offensive snaps before the injury. He was being used as the offense's TE3 behind AJ Barner and Eric Saubert.
Schneider made calculated risks when he drafted Arroyo at 50th overall. Injuries were a part of his predraft evaluation, and he'll now miss the remainder of his sophomore season. Arroyo is starting to look like a bust.
