When it rains it pours, and that is very much the case for the LIV Golf league right now.
They have already lost some of their biggest star names, including the likes of Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton, while Bryson DeChambeau is yet to commit to LIV 2.0.
Ever since Saudi Arabia’s PIF pulled their funding earlier this year, LIV has been on life support.
And it’s fair to say that LIV Golf currently faces an incredibly bleak future.
Several names have already announced they will not be involved with LIV 2.0
Only five players have committed to the new version of the league and none of them are star names.
Times are tough for LIV Golf right now, with recent exits including Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood, Lucas Herbert and Branden Grace.
Now another player has announced that he will be leaving for pastures new.
McDowell, who won the US Open at Pebble Beach in 2010, has failed to win an event since joining LIV Golf back in 2022 and at 47, he is now on the back nine of his career.
The Northern Irishman took to his social media channels on Monday to announce that he will not be pursuing the opportunity to play on the LIV Golf league.
“I’ve decided not to pursue LIV 2.0,“ McDowell’s statement began.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity I’ve had over the last four years and want to thank everyone who has been a part of that journey.
“I look forward to the next chapter in my career.“

Graeme McDowell clearly didn’t fancy playing for smaller purses against weaker fields on LIV 2.0 moving forward.
As we always knew, it was solely about the money from day one, and nothing else. Suggestions that players wanted to ‘grow the game’ by joining LIV Golf were unscrupulous in the extreme.
Now that is being proven by the fact that so many golfers are leaving the league.
