Shane van Gisbergen will return to JR Motorsports for select NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series races during the 2027 season. The organization announced on October 20 that the New Zealand native will once again compete in the No. 9 Chevrolet, continuing his successful partnership with Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s organization for a third consecutive season. His exact schedule has not yet been announced, although the team confirmed he will make multiple starts.
Van Gisbergen has enjoyed tremendous success with JR Motorsports throughout the 2026 season, winning two of his three starts. The Trackhouse Racing driver captured victories at Circuit of the Americas in March and Sonoma Raceway in June before finishing eighth at Watkins Glen International in August. His dominant Sonoma performance included leading 66 of 79 laps, securing his sixth career O'Reilly Auto Parts Series victory.
The 37-year-old originally joined JR Motorsports in 2025, making three appearances on road and street courses. He captured a victory at the Chicago Street Course and finished second at Sonoma Raceway before encountering problems at Watkins Glen. Van Gisbergen has recorded three victories in six starts with the organization, establishing himself as one of NASCAR's most successful road-course competitors.
Van Gisbergen will once again share the No. 9 Chevrolet with fellow Trackhouse Racing driver Ross Chastain, who also signed an agreement to return for select events in 2027. Chastain captured a victory at Charlotte Motor Speedway in May, giving the duo three combined wins in eight starts this season. JR Motorsports has also confirmed that Tristan McKee will compete in select races in the No. 9 Chevrolet next year. Meanwhile, Carson Kvapil will move to the No. 8 Chevrolet, and Sam Mayer will return to the organization behind the wheel of the No. 1 entry.
Van Gisbergen will continue competing full time in the NASCAR Cup Series for Trackhouse Racing while pursuing additional victories in NASCAR's second-tier division. Although his previous JR Motorsports appearances have exclusively come on road and street courses, the organization has not revealed which tracks he will compete at in 2027. The extension gives van Gisbergen another opportunity to build upon his impressive NASCAR resume while continuing his relationship with JR Motorsports.
