Thousands of runners took to the streets of Dublin on Sunday for the 2026 Irish Life Dublin Marathon, producing another memorable day of sporting achievement, emotion and celebration in the capital.
More than 19,000 participants tackled the famous 26.2-mile course, braving windy conditions as they made their way through some of Dublin's best-known streets and neighbourhoods.
After months of gruelling training, runners set off from Leeson Street before passing through the Liberties, Phoenix Park, Chapelizod, Inchicore and Terenure on their way towards the finish line.
And as always, the event was about much more than the elite athletes battling for victory.
For many participants, simply completing the marathon represented a great personal achievement, while others were running in memory of loved ones or raising money for charities and causes close to their hearts.
And there were emotional scenes at the finish line as exhausted runners celebrated completing one of the toughest challenges in sport.
Ethiopia's Abay Alemu Lesa won the men's race in 2:10:29, while compatriot Zenebu Fikdau Jebesa claimed victory in the women's race in 2:24:26.
Mayo's Hugh Armstrong was the first Irish man home, while Judith Storm of City of Derry Spartans AC was crowned Irish women's marathon champion.
