March Town, Whittlesey Athletic and Parson Drove all win in Thurlow Nunn League action

There were great wins for the Fenland trio of March Town, Whittlesey Athletic and Parson Drove in Thurlow Nunn League action this afternoon.

Downham Town maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a draw, but Wisbech Town, Fakenham Town and Heacham all suffered defeats.

The Hares were 4-3 winners against Dereham Town at the GER in the Premier Division, while Whittlesey Athletic triumphed 3-0 against Gorleston Reserves in the First Division North and Parson Drove recorded an impressive 4-1 victory on the road at Dussindale Rovers.

Rio Henson scored a hat-trick for March Town this afternoon.

A late goal saw Wisbech Town beaten 2-1 by Harleston Town, while Fakenham Town lost 2-0 at home to Newmarket Town in the Isthmian League North.

Downham Town - missing several key players - preserved their unbeaten start to the campaign with an uninspiring goalless draw at home to Lakenheath, while whipping boys Heacham suffered a 4-0 home drubbing at the hands of Ely City.

The most dramatic victory of the afternoon came from Ash Taylor’s March Town side, who looked to be heading for another defeat at the hands of Dereham Town.

The Magpies led 3-1 at one stage before the Hares staged a remarkable fightback, scoring three times to snatch a thrilling 4-3 victory.

Rio Henson was the hat-trick hero for the home side, with Flo Tsaguim netting what proved to be the winner 18 minutes from time.

Whittlesey Athletic took the lead through Josh Paul before his replacement, Ollie Hill, struck twice in the second half to secure a comfortable 3-0 victory against the Greens’ second string.

Parson Drove, meanwhile, made it back-to-back wins with a 4-1 success on the road at Dussindale Rovers.

Flynn Slater netted a brace, including one from the penalty spot, while Winston Bayole and an own goal completed the scoring for Drove.

Connor Deeks put Harleston Town ahead against Wisbech Town before Luke Hipwell’s side drew level through Luke Harris a minute before the break.

However, Jake Reed struck in the 84th minute to condemn the Fenmen to a rare league defeat.

Chances were few and far between in a drab encounter between Downham Town and Lakenheath, which remained goalless on a blustery afternoon at the Memorial Field.

Heacham remained second bottom of the Premier Division table following a third consecutive 4-0 defeat, this time at Station Road against Ely City.

Dom Hunt, Jack Friend, Jamie Baxter and Sammy T were all on target for the visitors as Heacham endured another miserable afternoon.

Fakenham Town were also left empty-handed as the Ghosts suffered a 2-0 home defeat against Newmarket Town.

Ben Nolan and Josh Lee were the goalscorers for the Jockeys.
