Jack Nicklaus has won everything there is to win in the game.

And after the first three or four years of Jordan Spieth’s career, some golf fans and analysts were predicting that he could go on to match Nicklaus’ records.

The Golden Bear won 73 PGA Tour events throughout his career, including a record-setting 18 major championships.

Jack Nicklaus is widely considered to be the greatest golfer of all time and he is one of only six men to ever have completed the career Grand Slam.

Jordan Spieth has achieved a lot in the game too, with 13 PGA Tour wins and three major championships to his name.

However, the Dallas native has regressed badly over the past four years or so. He is without a major win since 2017, and he almost certainly won’t get anywhere near Nicklaus’ win tally by the time he retires.

The harder Spieth works on his game, the more he seems to struggle, and his recent fall-off is genuinely hard to comprehend.

After he won his third major championship at The Open in 2017, the now 33-year-old seemed to be on course to become one of the true greats of the game.

And Nicklaus had full faith in his ability.

Jack Nicklaus made a prediction about Jordan Spieth in 2017

Back in 2017, Nicklaus spoke about Spieth during an exhibition match at TPC Twin Cities alongside Gary Player and Lee Trevino.

The Golden Bear responded when asked whether Spieth would ever complete the career Grand Slam.

“Jordan will win the PGA (Championship) whether it’s this week or another year,“ Nicklaus said.

“He’s such a good player and he has a great short game. I don’t think his long game is as good as it’s going to be.

“I think it’s going to get a lot better as he gets older. And as he gets older, he’ll solve the problems of why occasionally he’s wild. I think he’ll correct that whether that’s this week or next year or whenever it is. He’s a really good kid, and at such a young age, he’s playing great and will continue to play great.“

Unfortunately for Spieth, he has actually got worse as he has aged, unlike what Nicklaus predicted.

Of course, Jordan Spieth still has plenty of time to turn things around and complete the career Grand Slam one day.

However, the odds are not in his favor anymore. That in itself is hard to believe given the fact that he is only 33.
