Rangers have gone big in their two summer transfer windows under the American owners following their takeover in May 2025.
This summer, the hierarchy backed Derek McInnes with 14 new signings, of which only Lawrence Shankland was signed before the manager’s arrival from Hearts. The Light Blues spent a total of £35.5m on transfers for the 2026/27 season.
Due to the heavy spending, Andrew Cavenagh confirmed there would not be much happening in the January transfer window.
Sources have told Rangers News that reports surfacing in the last 24 hours about a potential big-name arrival in the January transfer window are not in line with the club’s stance and approach to the winter. The plan is, and always has been, to only make a new signing if there are any major holes in the squad to fill.
Hellberg seems fond, but that hasn't translated to minutes…
There is no appetite to sign a big-name player, either, as that would cost a lot of money, and after two big summers and a big January window in 2026, the owners are expecting a quieter window at Rangers.
The recruitment team and the board believe that they brought in the profiles they were looking for in the summer. Rangers News understands that while first-choice targets were not necessarily brought in for all the positions, the mood at Ibrox is positive based on the volume and quality of transfers.
Fans have also shared on TalkingPoints that they have been pleased with the club’s activity in recent months, and results are showing that the plan is working and McInnes is able to get the best out of his new signings.
