Ismaila Sarr may have himself a few options in the next few months, with Crystal Palace offering him a contract extension and Manchester United reportedly expressing interest.
Liverpool had two bids for Sarr rejected in August as they attempted a late move for the Palace winger, after failing to sign a recognized right-winger. The Reds had also bid for Brighton's Yankuba Minteh, who reportedly asked for over $100 million, and walked away.
They then bid twice for Sarr, who also appeared to ask for too much, while opting to keep Cody Gakpo and deploy him, alongside Rio Ngumoha, Victor Munoz, and Bradley Barcola from the left. Now, United could make a move for Sarr.
TeamTalk has reported that United retain a strong interest in Sarr and could look to bring him in as they compete with the likes of Bryan Mbuemo and Marcus Rashford on their flanks.
The report adds that Sarr is pleased with the terms Palace has offered ahead of a potential new deal. Still, he continues to assess his options amid United's monitoring and awaits whether Liverpool will reignite its interest.
TeamTalk has also stated that Newcastle and Sunderland could be two options for Sarr, as could the Saudi Pro League.
Sarr was ruled out for the first two months of the season, in what was officially a groin injury — although the belief was that he was frozen out of the team after attempting to force a move to Liverpool, with Galatasaray also interested.
Liverpool offered $68 million for Sarr, which was rejected just a week before the window closed, with a second bid going in a few days later. The bid was also swiftly turned down.
The Reds were reportedly ready to offload Gakpo, but eventually turned down Manchester City’s $109 million offer.
Gakpo has started the season strongly, with Munoz and Ngumoha also impressing. Barcola scored a hat-trick in the Champions League against LASK, but has yet to open his account in the Premier League.
While Liverpool could go in for Sarr again, Minteh is the more likely option, being six years younger than the Palace winger and seemingly a better fit.
Liverpool looked to replace Mohamed Salah with a left-footed right-winger, with Minteh fitting that profile and seen as an ascending player.
Whether the Reds will be able to force a move in January remains to be seen, with deals notoriously much more difficult to make in the mid-season window — especially from rival Premier League teams.
