‘Keeps Getting Worse,’ ‘What a Disaster’ - NBA World Stunned As Warriors Explore Trade Routes For Kristaps Porziņģis After Health Struggles

The Golden State Warriors have started exploring trade routes for center Kristaps Porziņģis, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Wednesday, as a health condition keeps him off the court. The report landed on the day Golden State opens its 2026-27 regular season against the Los Angeles Lakers at crypto.com Arena.

Content creator Matt was among those weighing in Wednesday afternoon, as the report raised fresh questions about Porziņģis’ health and his place on Golden State’s roster.

NBA World Reacts as Report Says Kristaps Porziņģis Weighs His Basketball Future

Citing sources, Charania reported that Porziņģis is “now seriously contemplating his future in basketball as he deals with recurring symptoms from the autoimmune condition termed as POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome).”

The report was the first to tie Porziņģis’ absence to recurring POTS symptoms, according to Yahoo Sports. Porziņģis remains on Golden State’s active roster. He has not practiced or played with the team this preseason and has no timetable for a return, NBC Sports Bay Area reported.

“This keeps getting worse man,” Matt wrote.

Tip-off in Los Angeles is set for 10 p.m. Eastern. “BRO the season hasn’t EVEN STARTED YET,” one fan wrote.

Porziņģis, a one-time All-Star and NBA champion, has dealt with the condition before. It limited him during the 2024-25 Eastern Conference semifinals, when he averaged 15.6 minutes for the Boston Celtics in a six-game series against the New York Knicks that ended Boston’s title defense.

Golden State acquired him at the trade deadline in February, and he played 15 games for the Warriors last season. He signed a two-year, $40 million contract with the team this offseason.

“What a disaster,” the franchise’s fan page Warriors World wrote.

Knicks Muse wrote about Porziņģis himself, “I know it didn’t end well in New York, but so sad to see what’s happened to Kristaps over the past couple of years. Hope he’s able to get through this and continue playing normally.”

The Warriors reiterated on October 14 that Porziņģis would be out indefinitely for health reasons. Last week, after that update, he addressed his health on social media.

“Hello people, I’m working with doctors and experts to figure out how to be fully back to good health asap … Honestly, I’m getting better and better. I just have to stay patient, and I believe I’ll be feeling great again soon. It has definitely been frustrating dealing with some health stuff that you can’t exactly pinpoint, on top of injuries throughout my career, so it has added up for sure, but we will get through it. Health is wealth. Thank you for all the support,” he wrote.

“Trade routes for a guy who might retire from basketball?” a Mavericks fan page asked.

In a follow-up post, Charania laid out the financial side of a potential deal, writing that “Porzingis is on a trade-flexible contract for $20 million this season and a small partial next year, serving as essentially an expiring deal that the Warriors can utilize, potentially with their pool of assets.”

The post continued: “He first revealed his POTS diagnosis last year and has had ups and downs with the issue. If there is no breakthrough in recovery, stepping away from basketball, for good, is possible.”

It’s quite devastating to witness a talent like Porziņģis endure such tough stints in Golden State and New York before that. The Latvian big man would certainly be a talking point in the coming weeks as fans eagerly wait to see how his future plays out.
