Rotherham United’s Head Coach Alex Bruce said his Millers team ‘chucked the game away’ last night at home to Newport County.
Speaking to the Official Site after being two up and ending with a two-all draw the Millers Boss said, ‘I’m bitterly disappointed. The mistakes we made were basic errors. The penalty was a lapse in concentration and the other was just a calamity which included three or four mistakes.
‘It’s a shame because the way we started the game was a bit more like it. I was pleased with the first half performance but then we let them back into it and got a bit nervy, a bit edgy and that was the story of the night.
‘The first twenty minutes is exactly what I want to see but I want to see it for ninety minutes. When you go two-up you want to see that out until half-time, have your fifteen minutes and get ready to go again for the second half. And to give them a penalty in that matter it kills you. Then with fifteen, twenty minutes to play the last thing you want to do is take a chance and turn when you’re under pressure. You want your centre-halves to turn the ball around, get it up the pitch to the half-way line and not taking chances. But we took the chance and paid the heavy price.
‘I can think of six or seven goals which we’ve given the opposition through sheer individual errors but I can’t think of too many coming our way. You can legislate for the odd mistake but at the minute we are making too many basic errors. We cut that out and we’ll start getting results and climb the table.
‘Yeah, we’ve not lost, but it’s a tough one to take.
‘We’ve got a lot of young lads in who haven’t played much football and with young lads you have to realise that they are going to make mistakes. And we’ve seen that tonight and it’s just important that they learn from them. But I’ve told them that it’s a man’s game in League Two and they have to make decisions better and know when to play and when to put it forward and not take risks. They need to find some resilience and keep learning.
‘We’ve got to learn from the positives of tonight and take them into Saturday.’
