Leeds United’s interest in Porto left-back Zaidu Sanusi is nothing new, having tracked him since the 2024/25 season.
Reports in England this week stated that Leeds are showing an interest in the 29-year-old left-back. That likely comes from the fact his contract expires next summer.
That means he is free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement from January. And various clubs are already looking to get into the mix. Leeds are reportedly one of them.
Their apparently interest has been noted in Portugal. And now their press are having their own say on the matter.
Record report that there interest ‘s not new’. They state that Leeds have been tracking Zaidu since the 2024/25 season. In other words, they’ve been looking at him since they were promoted.
They have already scouted the full-back on several occasions. Their most recent scouting mission to watch him was during the Champions League clash between Porto and PSV.

Sport Witness reported on that scouting mission. We even named Zaidu as the potential target for it. Now Record say the same.
Porto had previously blocked any potential transfers but that could chance in the coming months. With his contract expiring and no sign of a renewal, the window could now be about to open.
However, Record report that Porto manager Francesco Farioli wishes to continue working with the left-back. He’s conveyed that to the board. It’s now up to them to sort his future.
Correio da Manha also report on the matter. They say that Leeds want to secure Zaidu for a bargain price in January. Reports in England have it at €2-3m.
Porto haven’t given up on the player signing a new deal, though. As CM have learned, there have already been discussions between Porto’s hierarchy and the player regarding a contract extension. The two parties are yet to reach an understanding.
But they are making efforts to change that. The newspaper also states that the Nigerian had the opportunity to move to Elland Road in the January transfer window last year.
Like Record, it seems they’re saying Leeds’ interest is longstanding. Now, with his contract expiring, the January transfer window seems like the perfect time to make that interest more concrete.
