Menzies exited last year’s World Championship in disgrace as he lost control of his temper following a first-round defeat to Charles Manby
Cameron Menzies admits he is still haunted by punching a table at the World Championship last year.
The Scot exited Alexandra Palace in disgrace as he lost control of his temper following a first-round defeat to Charles Manby before Christmas, needing medical treatment for hand injuries.
He has returned to the PDC Tour and enjoyed some success, but suffered more drama at the World Matchplay in July when he collapsed on stage after suffering from dehydration.
Menzies knows his Ally Pally meltdown will stick with him, but wants his darts to do the talking.
“I want a conversation and not to talk about these obstacles,” the 37-year-old said after winning his first-round match against Niels Zonneveld at the European Championship in Dortmund.
“That would be my aim. I’d like to talk and not be the guy who made the mistakes like (punching) the table.
“I can name a few. I am not proud of it and unfortunately it is going to stay with me for the rest of my life.
“But I’m in a lucky situation to be a darts player. There are kids on the Challenge Tour that will take my place. I am lucky to be here.
“The mistakes I have made have made me realise how lucky I am to be here.
“I love to be here, I would just like this to be easier than it is.”
