Arch Manning has the family name, the physical tools, and the attention that come with being a potential first-round NFL draft pick. But after Texas’ recent losses, some fans are questioning whether his reputation is running ahead of his performances.

Now, a two-time Super Bowl champion has brought Shedeur Sanders into the conversation, and NFL fans are split over which quarterback deserves the upper hand in this debate.

The discussion arrives at a tense moment, as trade deadline rumors ripple around Sanders following his decision to hire a prominent sports agent while sitting on the Cleveland Browns’ bench.

Asante Samuel Questions Arch Manning’s Draft Advantage

Two-time Super Bowl champion Asante Samuel, who earned four Pro Bowl selections and twice led the NFL in interceptions, started the discussion with a post on X.

He tweeted, “Question: Will Arch Manning get drafted much higher than Shedeur Sanders was? If so, why?”

Manning is projected as a potential first-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft, while Sanders fell to the fifth round in 2025 before joining the Browns.

The contrast has generated questions about whether NFL teams place greater value on physical tools and projected potential than college production.

Manning’s recent struggles have added to that debate. Texas lost consecutive games to Oklahoma and Florida, with Manning throwing two interceptions against Oklahoma before fumbling late in the 27-24 loss to Florida. He finished the Florida game 14-of-20 for 173 yards and a touchdown. He currently has a PFN QB Impact Grade of 78.0, which ranks 58th in the league.

Sanders, meanwhile, threw for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns during his final college season at Colorado in 2024, completing 74% of his passes. His supporters point to those numbers as evidence that his draft position did not reflect his college production.

CuffsTheLegend, a sports personality and podcaster, challenged Manning’s standing in the comparison. He wrote, “In what world is Arch Manning a better quarterback than Shedeur Sanders?!”

Former NFL quarterback Luke McCown also responded directly to Samuel’s question with a blunt answer: “No.”

McCown spent 14 seasons in the league, bringing a veteran quarterback’s perspective to the discussion.

Others argued that Manning’s family name could influence his draft position. NFL analyst J Tuck wrote, “Yes and last name,” suggesting that the Manning legacy could help explain the difference in projected draft value.

One fan took aim at what he sees as unequal treatment of the two quarterbacks, writing, “At this point of Arch Manning’s college career, he’s not even close to being as good as Shedeur Sanders was in college.. Now let the privileged BS narratives run wild and debate this statement.”

Not everyone agreed that Sanders should rank higher.

Sports content creatorColb wrote, “Rather have Arch on my team than Shedeur any day of the week. It’s really only a discussion to his stans and I don’t value anything y’all have to say tbh.”

Another social media commentator also questioned the attention Manning receives, writing, “Arch Manning is who the NFL and mainstream media tried to make Shedeur Sanders out to be… Manning is not a good quarterback, and he’s not ready for the NFL.”

Manning still has time to improve his draft stock, and his physical tools remain part of his appeal to evaluators.

However, Samuel’s question highlights the divide between projecting a quarterback’s future and judging what he has already accomplished.
