With refreshing candor, Louie O’Doherty has admitted he didn’t deserve anything from Saturday’s highly contentious draw with Michael Gomez Jnr in London, England.

The bout, chief support to Daniel Dubois’ rematch victory over Fabio Wardley, left observers puzzled when the judges scored it a majority draw.

Manchester's Gomez Jnr was the aggressor for much of the 12 rounds and, at the final bell, looked a comfortable winner in his bid to win the British and Commonwealth lightweight titles.

But when the scores were read out – 115-114 for Gomez and two scores of 114-114 – Gomez left the ring in disgust.

After watching the fight at home, O’Doherty – to his enormous credit – admitted on social media that he believed he’d won no more than four rounds.

“I've just watched the fight,” he said. “I'm probably going to mess myself up by saying it, but I think Gomez won the fight eight rounds to four.

“It doesn't mean that the judges didn't see it my way.

“I see it [one] way, and from ringside they see what they see.

“I don't think it was cheating because there were a lot of rounds that were close.

“But after watching it back, my personal opinion was that the scorecard was eight to four.

“So, well done to Michael. Respect, and I have to be an honest man, no matter how much it messes me up.”
