Sir Jim Ratcliffe has reportedly put Lausanne-Sport up for sale nine years after buying the Swiss Super League club. The billionaire also co-owns Manchester United through INEOS after buying a minority stake from the Glazer family in February 2024. OGC Nice is the other team they own outright, but have been exploring a sale since May last year through New York-based investment bank Lazard. INEOS are apparently now also looking to offload Lausanne-Sport, who were based in the same city as their headquarters - which are now in Knightsbridge - between 2010 and 2016.
The Athletic reports that the global consultancy firm Alvarez & Marsal is tasked with selling Lausanne-Sport and has sent sales prospectuses to potential investors, said to be titled "Project Striker". It describes the club as "an established top-flight contender" despite having been relegated three times since 2014 and promoted most recently three years ago.
Lausanne-Sport finished fifth in the 2023/24 Swiss Super League season, but regressed to ninth last term and are currently bottom of the 12-team top flight after 10 games. They have won just one league match this season, much like Manchester United, who are 16th in the Premier League after their 3-0 loss to Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday.
News about Lausanne-Sport being put up for sale broke less than 24 hours after that match finished, amid intense speculation about the future of head coach Michael Carrick, who is United's third boss in just over two-and-a-half years of INEOS being delegated responsibility for management of football operations.
