The New York Giants head into Week 8 of the 2026 NFL schedule with a 4-2-1 record and sitting atop the NFC East. It is a stark contrast from this time last year when they were 2-5, and rumors swirled that they should be buyers before the trade deadline. Well, this year they have reason to go shopping before Nov. 10.
But what will the Giants be looking to upgrade or shore up on the trade market? Some clarity came on Friday from Jordan Schultz. According to the NFL Insider, the “Giants are looking for RB/DT” additions over the next couple of weeks.
With just under two weeks before the NFL trade deadline, we take a look at five realistic options the Giants could acquire soon.
In April, the Giants sent Pro Bowl defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence to the Cincinnati Bengals in a deal that earned them a second first-round pick this year. Unsurprisingly, they have not been able to fill that void yet, and it makes sense they are shopping for DTs before Nov. 10.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Tampa Bay Buccaneers lineman A’Shawn Robinson “is a name that a few teams floated because he’s still a productive interior player and a veteran who could help a contending team [and] also wouldn’t cost much to acquire at this stage.” The 31-year-old isn’t as good as Lawrence, but he would be a rock-solid addition at a very reasonable cost.
After a big day last week, Cam Skattebo quieted some of the vocal calls to make a bold trade for an elite running back like Jonathan Taylor. However, while the RBs played better on Sunday, the unit can still be upgraded.
One name to keep an eye on should be New Orleans Saints great Alvin Kamara. The five-time Pro Bowler isn’t the player he used to be, but he is still a good dual threat that might make a strong duo with Skattebo. Plus, he is in the final year of his deal and might only cost a fourth or fifth-rounder.
While trades inside the division aren’t common, the way the Washington Commanders’ season is going, they should consider selling before the deadline. That is why many believe they could shop one-time Pro Bowler Daron Payne before Nov. 10.
Over the last few seasons, he hasn’t been the dominant force that he was in 2022. However, he is also in the last year of his contract, and being able to prove he can be a high-impact player on a playoff team would do a lot for his value in free agency. A motivated Payne could be a big addition for the Giants.
The Giants making a trade for elite running backs like Taylor or Saquon Barkley is highly unlikely. However, one realistic option would be Tennessee Titans RB Tony Pollard.
The one-time Pro Bowler has rushed for 1,000-plus yards over the last four seasons, and at 29, he is right in the middle of his prime. He could form a dynamic speed and power combo with Skattebo.
One last potential option to bolster the interior of the defensive line is two-time Buccaneers Pro Bowler Vita Vea. Of the players on this list, he is the only one locked into another season, where he will make just over $30 million. That would be the biggest hindrance to a deal.
However, if New York can figure out a way to make the money side of a deal work (by possibly including Kayvon Thibodeaux), the Giants would be getting a top-shelf player at the position for the rest of 2026 and 2027.
