Morocco completed a perfect group-stage campaign at the U15 World Cup, while Cameroon secured a place in League A and Senegal were left to settle for League B.
The outcomes for Cameroon, Morocco, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Senegal were confirmed after the final two rounds of the group stage in Hovsan, Azerbaijan, on Thursday.
Morocco sealed top spot in Group F with 15 points from a possible 15. The Atlas Lion Cubs finished their campaign with a 7-0 victory over Curacao and a 5-1 win against Liberia, having earlier beaten the Philippines 2-0, Costa Rica 4-2 and Belize 6-0.
Their flawless record sends them into League A and keeps alive their hopes of claiming the title in the inaugural edition of the competition.
Cameroon also retain a chance of winning the tournament after topping Group K. The Indomitable Lion Cubs defeated Grenada 4-1 and Bahrain 2-0 in their final two matches to move above India and finish first.
They had begun with a 3-0 victory over Senegal, followed by a 2-1 defeat by India and a 1-6 win against Laos. Cameroon finished ahead of Senegal on the head-to-head record and will join Morocco in League A.
Senegal can consider themselves unfortunate after recovering strongly from their opening loss. Ousmane Diop’s side won four matches in a row after the defeat by Cameroon, scoring heavily against Grenada, Bahrain, Laos and India.
The Teranga Lion Cubs beat Grenada 1-7, Bahrain 7-1 and Laos 9-0 before completing their run with a 1-6 victory over India. Those results were not enough to take them above Cameroon, however, and Senegal will enter League B alongside Cote d’Ivoire, who had qualified for the same level earlier on Thursday.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo also ended the group stage with two victories, defeating Guinea-Bissau 0-1 and Nepal 4-0.
Those results came after three successive defeats against El Salvador, who won 2-3, Tunisia, who prevailed 3-1, and Brazil, who recorded a 0-3 victory.
The Leopards can finish no higher than 97th place in League D.
