While global attention focused on the Ballon d’Or ceremony, Russian footballers Matvey Safonov and Aleksey Batrakov steered their respective teams to victories in national championship matches on October 26.

Matvey Safonov delivers five saves in Paris Saint-Germain victory over Lyon

Facing scrutiny following a 4-2 defeat to Barcelona where he conceded twice at his near post, Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Matvey Safonov responded with a clean sheet against Lyon. Safonov registered five saves, highlighted by a first-half stop against Julien Duranville, where he stretched to push a low, angled shot away from the far corner.

Paris Saint-Germain secured a 2-0 win through second-half goals. Flashscore rated Safonov at 7.8, while Sofascore awarded him an 8.1, sharing man-of-the-match honors with Vitinha. French outlets Foot Mercato and Le Parisien assigned him a 6.5, with ParisFans, So Foot, and Homme du Match registering a 7. This performance follows earlier clean sheets and strong outings against Brest and Strasbourg.

Aleksey Batrakov influences Galatasaray attack in Istanbul derby against Fenerbahce

Making his first appearance in the Istanbul derby against Fenerbahce, Aleksey Batrakov helped anchor Galatasaray’s midfield in a 2-1 home victory. The match featured early physical play, including a clash between Abdulkerim Bardakci and Romelu Lukaku, and a post-match scuffle in the center circle. Batrakov, having been substituted before the final whistle, avoided involvement in the post-match confrontation.

Sofascore rated Batrakov at 7.6, placing him behind Victor Osimhen (8.2) and Mario Lemina (7.8). Operating as the team’s playmaker, Batrakov created scoring chances from set pieces, including an indirect role in one of Galatasaray’s goals when Osimhen converted a rebound from Davinson Sanchez’s shot. Batrakov recorded 0.19 expected goals from two shots, 0.37 expected assists, and three key passes. Following the match, analyst Serdar Али Челиклер and commentator Umit Karan noted his tactical impact before his substitution, while manager Okan Бурук credited his defensive progress.

Ballon d’Or context and European aspirations for Russian internationals

Matvey Safonov missed the Ballon d’Or ceremony, where Unai Simon collected the Yashin Trophy for best goalkeeper, with Safonov finishing fourth in the voting. Galatasaray leads the Turkish Süper Lig with 22 points after nine matches, while Batrakov has contributed two goals in three European appearances this season as both players establish themselves abroad.
