Connor Taylor own goal clinches point for Cambridge against Wycombe

Connor Taylor’s own goal deep into stoppage time saw Cambridge salvage a 2-2 draw with Wycombe.

Jayden Wareham’s clinical brace looked to have handed the U’s only their second league defeat of the season, only for the hosts to dramatically hit back.

The Chairboys went ahead a minute before half-time when Fred Onyedinma squared the ball for Wareham, who swivelled and finished powerfully beyond Jake Eastwood.

Looking to respond after half time, Cambridge went close seven minutes after the restart when Sullay Kaikai’s free-kick from the left was pushed away by Conor Hazard.

Instead Wycombe added to their lead in the 61st minute as Anders Hagelskjaer delivered from the left and Wareham buried an excellent first-time finish into the top corner.

Having offered little threat, Cambridge reduced the deficit 12 minutes from the end when Shayne Lavery headed in Ben Knight’s corner.

Hazard saved twice from Knight and then from Kaikai but Wycombe looked to have seen the game out, until Taylor headed Liam Bennett’s cross beyond his own goalkeeper at the death.
