FC Tokyo secured a dominant 4-0 away victory against ten-man Tokyo Verdy on Saturday in the J.League, extending their winning streak to five matches without conceding a single goal, Sumikai reported. The result lifts the visitors to 23 points, pulling them level with Sanfrecce Hiroshima at the top of the J1 table before the remainder of the weekend fixtures.
The match turned decisively in the 18th minute at the Ajinomoto Stadium when Verdy striker Itsuki Someno received a straight red card. Officials dismissed Someno after he caught FC Tokyo captain and defender Hayato Inamura in the face during a challenge for a bouncing ball. Playing a man down, Verdy struggled to contain the visiting attack as defensive errors mounted.
Verdy goalkeeper Matheus kept his side afloat temporarily with a sharp reaction stop in the 21st minute, denying a powerful header from Soma Anzai. However, the resistance broke in the 41st minute. Unmarked defender Alexander Scholz capitalized on space following a corner from the left side, nodding home the opening goal to break the deadlock.
FC Tokyo pressed their advantage after the interval. Marcelo Ryan doubled the lead from the penalty spot in the 55th minute following a Verdy handball inside the box. Motoki Nagakura added a third in the 68th minute, sweeping home a low cross delivered from the right flank.
Substitute Dani Gomez rounded off the scoring deep into second-half stoppage time, driving a low shot through the legs of the opposing goalkeeper. The comprehensive defeat leaves Verdy anchored at the 20th and bottom position of the league standings, holding just four points from four draws and six losses through the opening stretch of the campaign.
Despite losing their opening fixture of the season, FC Tokyo has put together a nine-match unbeaten run under manager Rikizo Matsuhashi. During the last eight of those outings, the defensive unit has conceded just a single goal, anchoring their ascent to the upper reaches of the table. Sanfrecce Hiroshima currently holds the top spot on goal difference following a 3-0 home win over Kyoto Sanga, leaving the two front-runners deadlocked on 23 points.
For Verdy, the offensive struggles remain glaring. The club has failed to score more than a single goal in any match this season, compounding the defensive vulnerabilities exposed during Saturday’s capital derby.
