WWE is dealing with a bad hand by only making it worse.
Brie Bella’s broken scapula threw a monkey wrench into whatever plans WWE had following the Bellas turning heel on Paige at SummerSlam. What WWE was left with, to not completely abandon the moment, was having Nikki Bella and Paige start their own side feud, which is completely understandable and fine — even if ideally you would want both to be helping get over some of the up-and-coming talent, too.
There were some very logical and simple storylines WWE could have used to turn Paige more babyface to make the feud work better. The story could have focused on, how dare Nikki betray her after she called Paige in for help when Brie needed a partner because of Nikki’s ankle injury? All Paige did was help her sister win tag team gold and Nikki couldn’t contain her jealousy that it wasn’t her because Nikki’s body couldn’t hold up.
The other direction, if WWE wants to keep the focus on Nikki going after a world championship again, was to simply have Paige say, you would not have all the extra years of success if I didn’t get hurt. I was always better than you, and you know it.
