Russell Martin revels in four-goal victory as Leicester record back-to-back wins

Russell Martin declared himself delighted with his Leicester side as they produced back-to-back victories for the first time in League One this season by thrashing Bromley 4-0.

Three first-half goals from Will Alves, John Lundstram and Luke Thomas gave the Foxes a lead that they never looked like relinquishing.

And a fourth from Emil Riis in the second half rounded off a dominant evening which lifted the mood at the club and eased the pressure on their manager.

Martin said: “I’m really proud of the players and the performance.

“We were aggressive and composed and it was a good performance. My only frustration is that we could have scored more a bit earlier and make the game a bit easier for ourselves.

“Bromley is a hard place to come and hard to play here but we played really well, but the thing I’m pleased about most is we kept a clean sheet.

“I liked the way we managed the game, there was one five-minute spell where we got a little complacent but we got back on it quickly and were good value for our win”

Leicester led after four minutes when Sammy Braybrooke teed up Alves to shoot beyond Grant Smith.

One became two inside 16 minutes as Lundstram’s deflected drive found a way past Smith.

Smith denied Lundstram and Braybrooke but was helpless when the latter crossed for Thomas to tap home a third in first-half stoppage time.

And Braybrooke was the architect once again for the fourth in the 67th minute when he drove forward and fed Riis to poke home.

Bromley manager Andy Woodman was furious with his side’s defending.

“With respect to Leicester, no matter how good they are, we gifted them goals,” he said after watching a third straight league defeat.

“And it doesn’t matter how good you are, if you gift teams goals your job becomes so much harder.

“It’s frustrating because we aren’t built on that and we have grafted to eradicate that.

“Perhaps at the moment it’s a bit of quality and lack of confidence at the moment but we need to find a solution quick.

“The second half was about trying to look for some positives but I’m not seeing many.

“The only positive was the match is now over, and we have to work on getting the basics better for Saturday (a home match with Peterborough).

“We have to give the supporters more than we are giving them at the moment.”
